About Kuromai®-N Ointment

"Kuromai-N Ointment" is a Class 2 OTC Drug manufactured and sold by Daiichi Sankyo Healthcare. It is used to treat red bumps (purulent skin diseases) on the back, décolleté, neck, shoulders, thighs, buttocks, and other body areas.

The only over-the-counter drug containing the antifungal ingredient (Nystatin) effective against fungi (a type of mold), plus two antibiotics that target bacteria causing red, pus-filled bumps. Being a non-steroid type without steroids, it can be used over wide areas of the body.

Q Is it okay to keep the back and décolleté bumps dry?

A Moisturizing the skin is also important. When dry, the skin produces more sebum. Sebum is favored by bacteria that cause folliculitis. Proper moisturizing helps normalize sebum secretion.

Q If bacteria or fungi are the cause, should I just focus on thorough sterilization?

A Excessive sterilization can disrupt the skin’s balance and may worsen symptoms. Be careful not to over-wash by scrubbing. Use a mild acidic soap and wash gently.

Q I feel like bumps on my body tend to appear as my period approaches.

A Hormonal balance can also have a big impact. During menstruation, hormonal balance is easily disrupted, increasing sebum secretion and making it easier for bacteria and fungi to grow. Care timed with the menstrual cycle can help prevent and manage symptoms.

Q Should I avoid applying sunscreen when I have bumps?

A When spending long hours outdoors, it is recommended to frequently apply a mild sunscreen. Waterproof or hard-to-remove types may worsen symptoms, so choose a lighter, easier-to-remove one.

Q Are the bumps on the buttocks the same as those on the back and décolleté?

A It may be the same. The buttocks also tend to get sweaty and humid, making it easy for fungi to grow. If sitting causes pain or symptoms do not improve, it is recommended to see a dermatologist early.
