Frequently Asked Questions
🌿 Brand Story | Keimeigashin Powder born from great nature
Since its founding in 1933, Keimeido has been a manufacturer that produces and sells the gastrointestinal medicine "Keimeigashin Powder," which uses galangal (Class 2 OTC Drug) cultivated in the great nature of Yakushima and Tanegashima as its main ingredient, based on the philosophy of "helping those suffering from illness and saving lives." We take pride and care in every step from raw material cultivation to manufacturing and shipping.
The medicinal herb galangal is a ginger family plant native to tropical Asia. Yakushima is considered the northern limit for cultivating galangal, which is sensitive to cold. It grows maximally in summer and transfers all nutrients from leaves and stems to the rhizomes in winter to enter dormancy. These harsh growing conditions produce high-quality galangal rich in essential oils. Contract cultivation with local farmers ensures consistent production, and manufacturing is done at our own factory on Yakushima Island.
Every April, galangal seed rhizomes are planted. Fields with deep topsoil and good drainage are selected, and strong germination occurs by late May.
The peak growth period is September to October when the galangal rhizomes enlarge the most. Leaves grow thickly, and rich essential oils accumulate in the rhizomes.
The harvest season is from February to April when the leaves of galangal wither and the rhizomes mature underground, entering dormancy. The peak harvest is in March. Only rhizomes containing the maximum active ingredients are carefully selected and harvested.
The harvested raw medicinal herbs are properly stored in an air-conditioned warehouse. Then, through milling, mixing, and granulation processes, Keimeigashin Powder is completed. After filling, strict checks on weight and number of packets are conducted, and only products that pass shipment inspection are delivered to customers.
