What is the difference between Ointment AS and Cream S?
Cream S is a simple steroid-only formula suitable for dry to normal affected areas. Ointment AS contains the antibiotic Fradiomycin and is suitable for weeping infected areas. Use Cream S for non-infected eczema or rashes, and N Ointment AS for infected or impetigo areas.
Can it be used on infected areas?
Do not use on infected areas. If infected, use "Betnevate N Ointment AS" or consult a doctor or pharmacist.
How strong is the steroid?
Betamethasone valerate is ranked as "Strong," the third level out of five steroid strengths. It is the strongest rank among OTC drugs. Groups 4 and 5 require a prescription.
Can it be used on the face?
Avoid extensive use on the face. The skin on the face is thin and absorbs steroids easily, increasing the risk of redness and thinning. Consult a doctor or pharmacist if necessary.
What should I do if symptoms do not improve after several days of use?
If symptoms do not improve after 5 to 6 days, stop use and consult a doctor, pharmacist, or registered seller. Stop immediately if symptoms worsen.
Can it be used for athlete’s foot or ringworm?
Cannot be used for fungal infections like athlete’s foot or ringworm, or chickenpox. Steroids suppress immunity and may worsen fungal or viral infections.
Can it be used on children?
When using on children, do so under the guidance and supervision of a guardian. Avoid long-term use and stop once symptoms improve. Consult a doctor if concerned.
Can it be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Pregnant women or those who suspect pregnancy should consult a doctor, pharmacist, or registered seller before use. Nursing mothers should also consult before use.
