Indications
For persons with weak constitution who tend to feel cold and anemic, tire easily, and sometimes experience lower abdominal pain, heavy-headedness, dizziness, stiff shoulders, tinnitus, palpitations, and similar symptoms:

Japanese Angelica Root (Toki)

Replenishes blood and promotes circulation throughout the body. A key crude drug for cold sensitivity, anemia, and irregular menstruation.
Cnidium Rhizome (Senkyu)

Activates blood circulation and helps ease headache, stiff shoulders, and menstrual pain.
Peony Root (Shakuyaku)

Largest amount in the formula. Relaxes muscle tension and eases pain, spasms, and menstrual painโa core crude drug.
Poria Sclerotium (Bukuryo)

Helps expel excess fluid (suitoku) and improve edema, dizziness, and palpitations.
Atractylodes Rhizome (Byakujutsu)

What type of constitution is Tokishakuyakusan suited for?
It is suited for people with a โweak constitution who tend to feel cold and anemic and tire easily.โ It is a Kampo formula that particularly suits women of the softer-muscled, easily fatigued type (kyo-sho / deficiency pattern). It may not be suitable for those with a robust constitution or jitsu-sho (excess pattern) type.
What if I cannot take it before meals?
โBefore meals or on an empty stomachโ is recommended, but if you have a weak stomach and feel discomfort when taking it before meals, you may take it after meals. From an efficacy standpoint, however, absorption is considered better before meals or on an empty stomach.
Can children take this product?
It may be taken from age 7 and up. Children 7 years to under 15 years should take 2/3 packet (about 1.0 g) three times a day. Do not give to children under 7 years. When giving to children, a guardian must always manage and supervise use.
How many months may I continue taking it?
Kampo medicines are generally intended for continued use, but if symptoms do not improve after 1 month of use, stop taking this product and consult a physician, pharmacist, or registered seller. Effects on menopausal disorders and irregular menstruation often appear with continued use (a guide of about 2โ3 months).
What if the granules are hard to swallow?
Dissolving them in warm water (lukewarm water) and drinking like tea makes them easier to take. Warm water helps the crude drug components absorb more readily than cold water. Combining with other beverages (juice, coffee, etc.) may affect the medicinal effect.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Tokishakuyakusan is indicated for disorders related to pregnancy and the postpartum period (anemia, fatigue, edema, etc.), but if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, always consult a physician or pharmacist in advance before use.
